Here is the latest news directly from Author SL Jennings!

"So more good news…and bad news.
Before I dive in with it, I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone for supporting THE DARK LIGHT SERIES, as well as my new standalone, FEAR OF FALLING (7/18). You all are seriously so amazing & I am grateful for every one of you.
Ok… let’s get to the Bad News: LIGHT SHADOWS will not be released in the fall. It is being pushed back until the end of 2013/early 2014. No definite date yet. Wait, wait…before you print out my pic to use as a dartboard, there’s a reason for this! A really, really good one, too! LS will be the end of the DLS. And I want to end it on the best note possible. Which brings us to the good news…
NIKOLAI (the Dark Light novella about Dorian’s little bro) will be released in the fall instead! It will be the story of how Niko came to be…well, a cocky yet loveable little bastard. I’m really excited about it, so excited that I’ve got a snippet for you all! Enjoy!"
Make sure you add NIKOLAI to your Goodreads TBR here:www.goodreads.com/book/show/17916113-nikolai

SL Jennings "Fear of falling" Cover Release

I am so excited for the release of this stand alone novel!

Fear of Falling by S.L. Jennings

Release Date: July 18th, 2013

Cover:

Synopsis:

I can’t remember the last time I felt completely safe. Security seemed more like a luxury to me, reserved for those who were fortunate enough to have picture perfect childhoods. For those who didn’t bear the ugly scars that keep me bound in constant, debilitating fear. I’ve run from that fear my entire life. But when I met him, for once, I couldn’t run anymore.

He scared the hell out of me in a way that excited every fiber of my being. It wasn’t the tattoos or the piercings. It wasn’t the warmth that seemed to radiate from his frame and blanket me whenever he was near. It was just…him. The scary beautiful man that threatened to alter 23 years of routine and rituals, and make me face my crippling fear.

My name is Kami and I am constantly afraid. And the thing that scares me the most is the very thing I want.

***Inspired by true events***

Excerpt:

“Hey,” I smiled, stepping behind the bar and tying the little black apron around my waist. Dive had just opened and was completely empty aside from the day shift preparing for the lunch crowd.

Blaine turned from his task of refilling the soda dispenser and crooked a grin. I could only describe it as polite, and that fact tore me in two.

“Hey, Kami.” His deep chocolate eyes narrowed. “You change your hair?”

I twirled a lock of my honey blonde highlighted mane and shrugged. “Felt like I needed a change.” I didn’t have the guts to tell him that it was really an attempt at bribery by Angel. She knew I was a whore for spa days at the upscale salon she frequented and used my weakness to try to get me to gush about my feelings for Blaine. It didn’t fully work as she intended but I did throw her a bone: I told her I was attracted to him. It was harmless enough. Even a 90 year old deaf and blind woman would have a raging lady boner for him.

Blaine gave me the most genuine smile I had seen from him in days and I swear I felt something in my chest swell. “I like it. Makes you look…I don’t know… devastatingly sexy.”

I didn’t try to stifle the blush that I could feel heating my cheeks. I embraced it. It was the first time I had felt anything but regret in days. “Yeah?”

“Hell yeah,” he said, closing the distance between us in three long strides.

And there it was again. The smell of mint and spice and pure male. The heat that seemed to roll off his body and enfold me like a mink blanket. Those intense brown eyes that made me forget my own name and had me imagining screaming out his. Him. It was all him. Blaine somehow made me forget me. The me that wasn’t allowed to feel all these beautiful, exciting things. The me that didn’t believe in happy endings. The me that was unlovable, and in turn, could never, ever love.

“You were sexy before…unbelievably so. But the way the golden strands seem to meld with your green eyes, it just… wow. Makes it hard to look at anything or anyone else.”

I sucked in a breath of air and let it out slowly through my mouth, closing my eyes in attempt to regain some sense of composure. “Blaine…” I couldn’t say anymore. His name, occupying my tongue like his skin once did, was enough.

“I’m sorry,” he sputtered quickly, breaking me from the sweet memories of tasting him. My eyes fluttered open to him looking sheepish, rubbing the back of his neck with a tattooed hand. Shit, even that was sexy.

“I think I should explain.” He rolled the barbell in his mouth before flashing me a strained grin. “I have this habit of always saying how I feel, no matter how embarrassing it is. A long time ago, I didn’t speak my mind. I didn’t ask the right questions because I was afraid of the answers. And life shitted on me because I kept my mouth shut. So I vowed to always be brutally honest and let the chips fall where they may. I’m sorry if that makes you uncomfortable.”

I looked away, seeking refuge from his penetrating stare. It didn’t make me uncomfortable. His words, his presence, it made me anxious. It made that pesky flutter in my stomach evolve into a full on swarm of butterflies.

“It doesn’t make me uncomfortable,” I replied, speaking my truth. For once, I didn’t let fear suppress my first instinct. “But you do make me nervous.”

“Nervous?” Blaine asked, crooking a brow.

“In a good way,” I quickly recovered. Shit. Real smooth.

Blaine chuckled, and that fascinating sound chipped at the wall around my forgotten heart. “I wasn’t aware there was a good kinda nervous. But I’ll take it. Anything to see your cheeks get pink like that. You have no idea how it makes me feel when that happens.”

Speechless. I was rendered completely speechless and my cheeks had taken on a life of their own and complied with his wishes. The smile that spread across Blaine’s lips as he took in my reddened face was undeniable and I suddenly felt completely stripped bare before him. I just wanted to cover myself and hide. But Blaine wasn’t having that. Before my nerves sent me cowering in a corner, his head dipped, placing his lips at my earlobe.

“I know you said you don’t feel anything,” he whispered. “But can you honestly say that you don’t feel this? That this heat, this attraction, is all in my head? Don’t think about it; just answer. Tell me what your heart wants to say and not what your head keeps trying to make you believe.”

I swallowed down the ‘no’ that was already reflexively building in my throat and let Blaine’s proximity push away the fear. His presence did that for me; it got me out of my own way.

“Yes, Blaine,” I rasped. “I feel it.” I did. I felt all of it. I felt all of him.

"One Too Many Brides

One bride died a year before the wedding, drowned in the waters of the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900. One fell in love and expects a quiet wedding and a peaceful life. They are both surprised when the confused groom is suspected of a brutal murder. The gruesome death of a local prostitute occurred just after the "dead" wife returned to town. Are the two events connected?

Dash, a female attorney, must find out the truth to bring peace to her own home as her adopted daughters are now torn between their love for her and suspicion that their original mother did not die in the storm, but might return. As Dash hunts a killer, she finds the dead are more help than the living in this dangerous pursuit. "

BRIDES OF THE STORM is the second book in the ECHOES OF THE STORM, Galveston Hurricane Mystery Series.

Blurb from Echoes of the Storm:
""Delightful historical mystery with a touch of the paranormal" The storm took almost everything she had. Now, a dead woman may take the rest. MY BOOK!

You guys asked for it, so here it is! My book cover! Immediately followed by part of chapter 1. Due to the adult content, I cut out the last part of chapter 1, but no worries, it will still be in the final copy!

Chapter 1

“Are you sure that you have everything packed and ready to go?” I ask my best friend Tia Dukas.  “Taylor, I think between the two of us we have everything packed except for the kitchen sink.” “Ok then let’s head out.” Tia and I are on our very first road trip. We decided back when we were in high school together that one day we would venture out into the world and take a random trip. I had been down lately and decided a vacation was in order so I took a month off from work, and called my BFF, as it turns out she was quitting her job and needed a getaway. We had her shiny white convertible packed to the max and we were ready to hit the road. We had been debating for weeks on which direction we should head. We live in a rural part of Georgia and originally thought we would head south to Florida then west as far as we dared venture, but I wanted to go to Washington D.C.  and I always get my way! So north it is.
“WHAT THE FUCK?!?!” I scream as I jump into the passenger seat. I accidentally sat down on Tia‘s bag and it started vibrating on my ass…  “What?” she says “it’s going to be a long trip and with no man in sight I definitely need some help with the ‘O” she blushes. I reach into the bag and cut the vibrator off before tossing her bag into the back where it belongs.
We head out, deciding to take a more scenic route that will take us around the cluster fuck of traffic that makes up Atlanta. The views in scenic Georgia really are spectacular. “So” she says with that devious look in her eyes “I know that you have been chatting with some guys online”… “Yea…” I reply, knowing where she’s going with this... “So are you making any plans to meet up with any of them on this trip?” (By ‘meet up’ I know she really means ‘hook up’). “I don’t know, I mean this trip is supposed to be about me and you, but you never know.” “Well, look, I love you to death and all, but if I meet some fine ass man that I am attracted to on this trip, well, let’s just say there is a big bag of condoms in the back.” I love my BFF but her sex drive is seemingly insatiable. She’s not a whore or anything, she has actually only ever slept with 4 guys (she’s very picky) but they had to be sure to ‘satisfy’ her multiple times a day, not that any of them ever complained…
Tia is incredibly sexy to say the least, fitting her Greek heritage she’s tall at 5’9”, and has a beautiful curvy figure, with long curly dark brown hair and eyes the color of milk chocolate but with gold flecks. I’d be lying if I said I’d never thought of hooking up with her myself. We have everything in common except for looks. We are stark opposites in that department. I am just an average 5’6” with a thin build, shoulder length stick straight blonde hair, nice tan skin and clear blue eyes. I have been called the “ice queen” before because of the looks I can give when I’m in ‘a mood’.
Our first stop is Charleston, South Carolina, it’s roughly 5 hours from Atlanta, and we both wanted to stop here to take in the scenery and the beach. It’s hot outside and the beach is just calling to me. We make our way to a moderately priced hotel to change clothes before heading out to the beach. “Which swimsuit should I wear Taylor, the cute and modest hot pink one that really shows off my tan skin or the slutty silvery shimmer one that attracts the attention?” Tia’s Greek heritage gives her incredibly pale skin and therefore she loves to tan. “Umm” I mumble back… (Truth be told she was a sex goddess in either one) “I would maybe wear the pink one for now, until we see what type of people there are out at the beach.” “You’re always the modest and reasonable one huh Tay.” “Also the responsible one” I retort back. We both know it’s true. I tend to think things through a little more than Tia does, I guess this is what makes us such good friends, I bring the responsibility and Tia brings the spontaneity so we balance each other out.  I quickly dress in my lavender bikini (my favorite color); it’s modest enough to be worn to a family beach but also super cute (with a white hibiscus flower over the left breast). “You look delicious” Tia says coming out of the bathroom in her hot pink bikini. “Thanks” I reply… Tia’s sexual innuendo is in full swing and that can only mean one thing… she is super horny! We head down to the beach to find it fully packed out with every type group imaginable. There were families with children making sand castles, and teenagers, trying to look cooler than they actually were, there was even a group of kids in t-shirts and shorts drinking beer and smoking what looked an awful lot like pot. We decided to move down farther on the beach in hopes of finding a more semi secluded spot. We managed to find a spot a good ways down from where we parked, but the nearest cluster of people was at least a hundred yards away, so for the most part it was nice and quiet. I lay my towel down, slipped my white flip flops off and lay down to bask in the heat of the summer sun.
It wasn’t long before a football came whizzing past our heads and almost hit me. “Hey, what the hell ass-tards?!?!” Tia cussed. “Watch where you are throwing your…” she cut off upon seeing the man candy that was walking our way. “I’m so sorry about that” the first guy to reach us said. “We were just horsing around, didn’t really think that anyone was down this far on the beach. I’m Dante Ramsey”. Tia was obviously smitten by the tall, dark and handsome “Dante”. “Well hello there, Dante! I’m Tia Dukas, and this is my friend Taylor Camblin.” “You ladies must not be from around here.” “No” I replied, “We are on a road trip and this was our first stop.” Tia jumped up at this point and asked if he would like to join us for drinks at a bar next door to our hotel a little later, to which he agreed. “You ladies be careful out here, you don’t want to be an ‘out of Towner’ wandering around a lone part of the beach after sunset.” That sounded a lot like some kind of warning to me, or maybe he was just being polite… We said our goodbye’s and went back to tanning.
A few hours later I was getting tired of being out on the sand, plus it was already late in the afternoon and the sun would be setting soon. “Tia, are you about ready to head back to the hotel?” “Yea, I need some time to get sexified before we meet Dante for drinks later.” We packed our belongings and began the trek back to the car, then on back to the hotel.
I kicked off my flip flops and lay down on the giant king size bed while Tia was in the shower. “So” she called from the shower “What should I wear tonight, Dante is really cute and I’m thinking maybe he could be my first one night stand.” “Hun you could wear anything and make it sexy!” I replied. She stepped out of the shower and grabbed her towel, before flipping her suitcase open to dig for something to wear. In the end she settled on a strapless black dress, black strappy sandals and of course a lacy black thong that she insisted on showing off to me before putting her dress on.  I decided then and there that I didn’t want to be the 3rd wheel on this date. “Hey do you mind if I just skip this whole ‘date’ and go down to the pool instead?” I asked. “Are you sure that you want to do that? I mean I can skip the date too and we can hang out.” She was so sweet to be willing to ditch a guy for me. “No, that’s ok, you go have fun; I’ll be down at the pool, maybe in the hot tub relaxing. You go and have fun.” “Well, ok, if you insist.” Still in my swimsuit from earlier, I slip on my flip flops and grab a towel. “If you need me, I’ll be at the pool.”
The pool is gloriously unoccupied when I arrive. The sun is setting and it’s the perfect time to get in and lounge around for a bit. I drop my towel, keys, phone and shoes at one of the tables, before heading to the deep end to dive in. I swim a few laps then decide to just float for a bit. I end up in the shallow end and decide to do a hand stand. Feeling a bit silly when I come up, I giggle a little at myself. It’s then that I realize I’m being watched.
Spinning around to see who’s there, I find ‘him’. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you” he says. “You were just so stunning to watch.”
“Umm, that’s ok, I’m sorry I didn’t realize anyone was out here.” “Oh I just walked up a few minutes ago and I didn’t want to interrupt you.”
I get out of the pool and walk toward the hot tub taking a few moments to take in this stranger’s appearance as I go. I glance at him and find his eyes meeting mine. It’s in that instant that my heart flutters frantically and I feel a little weak. “Are you ok?” he asks. “Umm yea, I’m just going to soak in the hot tub for a few and relax” I manage to mumble out. He’s hot, and not in the typical “hot guy” way either. He’s tall, at least 6’3” with seemingly unruly sandy blonde hair, and was that grey eyes? I could have seen blue but I swear they looked grey to me. He’s slightly muscular but not “built” and his skin is fair.
“Mind if I join you in the hot tub?” He interrupts my thoughts. “Sure” I reply with a little more certainty this time. It’s in those moments that I realize I want nothing more than to spend every moment with this amazingly sexy stranger. I spend the next several hours getting to know this mystery man. His name is Keil Lachmann, he is 27 (making him 4 years older than me and Tia), he’s not from South Carolina, but he’s living here to attend college, his family is from Maryland, and he’s staying at this particular hotel tonight because he needed an escape from his rowdy roommates. Glancing at my water proof watch, I realize that it’s late… really late. I need to get back to my room before Tia calls the cops. “Well, Keil, It’s been a really incredible night talking to you, but I am sure that I look like a prune and my friend Tia is probably wondering where I am.” “Well, can I walk you back to your room then?” he asks. “Sure” I say, “We are upstairs in room 225.” We get out of the hot tub and I grab my things and wrap up in my towel suddenly realizing the chill in the air after being in the hot water so long. I feel an arm drape around my shoulders as we begin to walk.
“You must be cold.” Keil says. I just nod in reply and we walk back into the hotel toward the elevator. It’s a silent walk back through the halls. We reach my room and I ask if he wants to come in. “No, I better take off, you should go in alone” he chuckles mysteriously, “but I’ll see you later, and I have your number now, we’ll be in touch.” And just like that he was gone.

S.L.Jennings

My most recent adult paranormal romance read was "The Dark Light" by S.L.Jennings. She takes a fresh new spin to the paranormal. "The Dark Light" is well written, and you experience a wide range of emotions while reading including: happiness, sadness, frustration, anger, fear, and even love and hatred. The ending will leave you begging for more! "The Dark Light" is the first in what I believe is going to be a trilogy, with book 2 "The Dark Prince" due out March 15th.

You can find Syreeta Jennings on Facebook and you can get your copy of "The Dark Light" on Amazon or B&N

It's my birthday

So, I know this post has nothing to do with authors or books, but I need to vent a little...

Today I turn 29 years old. It's the beginning of the very last year of my 20's. I started today with a combination of nostalgia and resentment. I am nostalgic for the good times and am full of resentment for the bad. I have lived through the best and worst times of my life in my 20's.  Fell in love when I was 18, continued that affair for a long time. Married twice, divorced once. The 20's has been an amazing journey for me, a roller coaster of thoughts, emotions and feelings. It's taken me to places that I never dreamed of going, given me feelings that I never dreamed of feeling (both good and bad) and in the end, I am right back where I started. I have met some incredible people and discovered so much about myself in my 20's. Only one question remains and only I can answer it... Where do I go from here?"

Naughty Nelson

My journey through Indie authors has taken me down a path that I never expected to find. My Indie author friends are like the best and most valuable hidden jewels. The 2 authors that I mentioned previously catered mostly to young adult readers. The next author I will discuss writes paranormal romance for adults.

J.D.Nelson is a wonderful person and a great friend. She's always up for talking to new people and sharing poetry. I recently attended an online party for her book "Night Abberations" and won some wonderful prizes that she generously donated.

J.D.Nelson's book series include:

"Night Abberations" and the not yet released sequel "The Fire Within the Night"
and
"A Night of Wickedness"

"Night Abberations" is a steamy adult paranormal romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what is going to happen next.

"A Night of Wickedness" an even more steamy adult paranormal romance that follows the Kinky Korrina as she is torn between the love of warewolf and the obsession of a vampire.

JD can be found on Facebook and her books can be found on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. If you are looking for some steamy, adult action, check her books out!

The Jubilant, Juicy, Julie Cassar!

I quickly delved into the world of Indie authors and discovered that not only are their books as just as good (if not better than) published books, they are a LOT more affordable, but I think perhaps the best thing about them is their personality. Indie authors LOVE to chat with their readers and hear what their readers and followers have to say.

Julie Cassar is a perfect example of an Indie author with a wonderful personality. I first discovered her shortly after Rose and her books include :

Ruby Blue
Deja Blue
Sky Blue

All 3 of these books follow a teenager named Ruby Blue who not only has the capability to see fairies, she even has some fairy friends. All three books are extremely well written and the characters are fully developed. You can read the books and feel as if you are part of the story.

I recently attended an online release party for "Sky Blue" and Julie was so generous that she donated prizes to her readers. After chatting with her on many occasions, I have come to view her as an upbeat, positive and all around beautiful person.

I encourage everyone, young and old alike to check out her books on Amazon or Barnes & Noble

You can also find her on Facebook

My first Indie Author friend: Rose Pressey

My very first Indie author is a lady just as sweet as the characters that she writes about.

Rose Pressey debuted her self published books with "How to date a warewolf". Rose found me on Facebook after I clicked "like" on a published authors page. I decided to give her books a try and fell instantly in love with her insanely crazy characters and their adventures. Rose writes paranormal YA and currently has 12 self published works.

And she has many more currently in the works!

Add her on Facebook or become a member of her fan club. Send her a message on Facebook, she loves talking to her readers and is truly a kind hearted woman :)
